Negrón & Rolich - Flash
Big news!!! Our very own Michelle has teamed up with Ariana Rolich and Celler Bernaví
in Terra Alta to make FLASH Wine for Light! It's a vibrant clarete rosé (traditional type of wine made by co-fermenting red and white grape varieties). Michelle and Ariana are best friends and are both dedicated to promoting emerging wine regions in Spain. They founded FLASH to align their professional passions and personal goals: to make a wine together and generate contributions to organizations working for the long-term stability of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 (Michelle's home). This wine is their effort to connect their communities and customers through a delicious wine from a place they love, with ConPRmetidos , an ambitious non-profit organization representing a "new generation of changemakers" committed to sustainable economic development in Puerto Rico.
FLASH is a blend of traditional red and white Catalan varieties, 50% Garnatxa Negra, 25% Garnatxa Blanca, and 25% Macabeu, from vines ranging 20 to 85 years old, in the villages of Vilalba dels Arcs and Batea in Terra Alta (the far south of Catalunya, in northern Spain). The vines are planted on deep panal soils, which are composed of silty loam with high limestone content and layers of gypsum. The soil is well-draining and retains deep reserves of water, providing the vines with moisture to resist the Mediterranean heat and lending a bright, salty expression to the wines.
The Garnatxa Negra was destemmed and given a brief maceration overnight to take advantage of its gorgeous blue-tinged fuschia tone, then pressed into a stainless steel tank; the Garnatxa Blanca and Macabeu were destemmed and pressed immediately, then added to the tank of Garnatxa Negra. The red and white musts were co-fermented with native yeasts and raised in stainless steel for five months on the lees, with periodic stirring, before bottling on March 9th, 2020, under a blazing, full supermoon in Virgo.
